The Seraph Contingency

All Hell Is Breaking Loose: The Seraph Contingency

Jennifer Fales mixes an angel-that-was with a demon-that-is in a humorous fast moving adventure that dabbles in mythology, blends science with magic and offers a delightfully quirky modern fairy tale.

Corona, CA – Award winning author Jennifer Fales announced today the release of The Seraph Contingency, Anael’s Tale. Fales’ newest fiction provides a beautiful, bored angel sneaking out of Heaven and wandering into a dive bar in Purgatory to answer the questions: What do a five year old and a ferryman have in common, what does a goddess have to do with a golf course, and what’s with all the artifacts in Hell?

Fales’ many layered novel is a humorous mythological adventure laced with enough science, laughter and magic to keep anyone entertained and enough quirky characters to intrigue the most seasoned of readers.

There’s the angel, Anael, a breathtakingly leggy and innocent blond, and her demon turned protector, the muscle bound Gaap. They’re accompanied in their journey through the charming community of San Clemente and the less charming underground of Hell by a host of odd characters, including one devious, demonic duchess with a checkered past looking to expand her wardrobe, a scarred transporter demon with a bad reputation and unusual tattoos and a violet haired vixen with a mind-bending condo near the beach.

There’s also Lucifer himself, a charming, sadistic egomaniac and all around bad guy and his underground kingdom that consists of a guild of professional thieves, a starched and stuffy aristocracy with their assorted castles and grand estates and, of course, the nightmare of perpetual road construction.

Author Fales manages to add just the right amount of trouble into this eccentric mix, shaking and stirring things up until it finally all boils over into the wildest party Hell has ever seen. However, as with any myth worth its weight, there’s a totally unexpected price to be paid before it’s over.

My Review:

What a strangely fun adventure! Anael- pronounced a nail- is an angel who was bored in heaven, so she ventured out to purgatory, and happened to be kidnapped and and slightly tortured in hell… And that’s all in the first chapter. Plus, she’s hilarious in her thoughts. Like she thinks “getting hit on” by a man means abuse lol she doesn’t grasp the flirting concept. Gaap is the very unlucky demon who gets saddled with getting her out and then getting her safe! It’s also completely interesting at how heaven vs hell and it’s “big wigs” are placed in control. It’s a whole different world that I thought to ever exist!

I loved Anael’s slight mental craziness! She made me laugh and cry and think that angels may be a whole lot different than we’ve ever thought. And her relationship with the small boy possessed by a demon is just fascinating! Plus it’s humorous lol

Gaap, I just wanna hug him! He made me feel guilty hahaha the duchess is evil, but I feel sorry for her. She tortured Anael for a stupid reason, but in hell, stupid reasons can make the difference of climbing in power. It makes for a whole different look at demons and hell and Lucifer and if everything from there is evil or simply a different culture with a different outlook.

The writing is definitely different. I felt like I was watching the scenes play out rather than reading them. It’s a very different experience but in a good way. And the plot is just so different. It is normally like “angels and heaven=good, Lucifer and hell=bad” but this makes me think just a little. I definitely enjoyed this one. 3.5 PAWS from me!
