Visions of death haunt her . . .

Vengeance consumes him . . .
Tortured by his past, Karson has worked tirelessly to wreak vengeance on the demons who murdered his family. But when Ava inadvertently disrupts his intricate plan for revenge, his focus shifts to an all-consuming need to keep her alive and in his arms.
Love could save their souls . . .
Thrown together by fate, Ava and Karson explore their new feelings and discover hope for the future. But they must battle the demons threatening humanity to find a destiny worthy of their love.
“Here.” Ava plunked a cup of coffee down in front of me, the liquid so dark that it looked thick enough to cut.
“Did you have to add the tar to this, or did it come already in the can?”
She eyed me levelly. “I’m giving you a chance here, remember?”
“Yes. I also remember rescuing you from a demon’s shadowman. Which hardly gives you reason to poison me with…whatever this is.” A grin touched my lips. I couldn’t seem to stop baiting her.
My grin faded. “Demons like Thomas need to be banished from this dimension.”
“Yes. You told me about that.”
“How do you think they’re banished?”
Her eyebrows scrunched together. “I hadn’t really thought about it.”
“There are two ways. One way is what you saw in that back room. The other is to chop off their heads. Guess which method offers a small chance of getting back the man whose body the demon inhabits?”
“I’m guessing it’s not the headless option,” she said dryly. Then a dawning horror touched her expression. “Jesus. So you have to what, torture the demon out of a person? Do you light them on fire?”
“God, no. The symbols weaken it. The circle of salt and candles help to keep it confined during the exorcism. And the burning sensation you experienced in your vision…well, during the latter part of the exorcism, their bodies sort of burn from the inside out. It doesn’t really create much smoke or a real active fire, but from their perspective…”
“It would feel like being burned alive.”
“Wouldn’t it be easier just to chop off their heads?” Her tone suggested a breezy question, but her eyes watched me carefully. As if weighing me based on how I answered her question.
“Yes. But if I wanted an easy job, I’d do something—hell, anything—other than this. And—”
I shook my head. “Nothing.”
“Are you aware your tattoos move?”
“They appear to move when I’m drawing power through them, but it’s basically an optical illusion caused by the magic.” Not exactly true, but the truth was complicated magical bullshit that I didn’t even fully understand. Or give much thought to.
“You know that’s freaking weird, right?”
“Yep.” I sipped the coffee and—just barely—kept from gagging.
“Why do you do this?”
“My reasons are my own.” That’s all there was to be said about that. And it wasn’t debatable.
She seemed to sense that needling wouldn’t get me to talk about that particular subject, and she got up from where she’d sat on the chair across from the couch.
“Are you hungry?” She walked to the small kitchen table and picked up her cell phone. “I think I’ll order a pizza.”
I needed to hammer a warning into her head and get the hell out of here. Come up with a new plan to get Thomas. I knew that. But for some reason, I couldn’t make myself leave. Hell, I didn’t want to leave. “Sure, just don’t get anything weird on it.”
“Weird? Such as?”
“You know. Vegetables.”
This was such a fun ride! A great steamy paranormal romance. What would you do if you could touch someone and see their death? I think I’d freak out LOL
Ava has literally retreated into herself because she doesn’t want to touch or be touched, you never know what she might “see”. She’s also tried to stop those “sights” from happening to only have it get worse. Ava is completely withdrawn except for her best friend Miriam. And one day, with Miriam, she meets two men, and when one touches her, she sees his absolute horrible death. She is now stuck as to what to do with that info. Does she tell him, though he won’t believe her, or live with the guilt that she should try. And that’s how her world unravels. LOL Ava learns that demons are real, as well as demon hunters. She also learns that she has a “gift” not a “curse”, and it could be useful. Except Mr Demon Hunter thinks she should be kept safe at all times, and she’s so stubborn she’s willing to throw herself in the demons arms to save him. Typical day in the romance right? 😛
Karson, aka Mr Tough Guy, is the demon hunter, who has infiltrated the demons lair, and is trying to actually save the man the demon is possessing. And things come tumbling down around him when Ava shows up. He wants nothing more that to find the demon that killed his whole family and made him a hunter. And now, he also wants Ava, but can he give up on some much revenge for her? He’s definitely your alpha male, all stubborn, and demanding, and possessive, and having a serious issue with independent women. LOL Karson not only has to keep trying to save Thomas/banish that demon, keep Ava safe after she spoils everything and all the demons know who she is, and still try to find a way to kill the even bigger, badder demon coming around.
I definitely found this an easy read. It has a very good plot scheme, great writing, some fun characters, and a twist with betrayal I NEVER saw coming. Ava and Karson are both so damn stubborn that their romance is almost a love hate relationship until they both finally get a swift kick to the head. LOL I’m glad it worked out exactly the way it did. And I must say, after the dust settled, and Ava and Karson get their ending, I am seriously hoping that Miriam can get an ending like this too 🙂 She was definitely a favorite of mine!
There’s plenty for everyone here in this book. There’s of course the paranormal aspect, but there’s mystery, and action, and some very steamy, fun romance. 🙂 Seriously, the end, I had a jaw drop moment and then cheered like crazy 🙂 So, I hope that these characters in this world can continue some more 🙂 An EXCELLENT STEAMY DEMON BUTT KICKING 4.5 PAWS!
