  Dirty Blood (Dirty Blood, #1)

Dirty Blood (Dirty Blood #1)

I killed a girl last night. I did it with my bare hands and an old piece of pipe I found lying next to the dumpster. But that’s not the part that got me. The part that scared me, the part I can’t seem to wrap my head around and still has me reeling, was that when she charged me, her body shifted – and then she was a wolf. All snapping teeth and extended claws. But by the time I stood over her lifeless body, she was a girl again. That’s about the time I went into shock… And that was the moment he showed up. Now, all I can do is accept the truths that are staring me in the face. One, Werewolves do exist. And Two, I was born to kill them.

Cold Blood (Dirty Blood, #2)

Cold Blood (Dirty Blood #2)

Wood Point Academy is not at all what I expected. For one thing, it looks like a cross between military school and Buckingham Palace. Everyone stares, the floors shine so bright you can see your reflection in them from a mile away, and no one smiles. Unless they’re kicking your butt in the process.
At least I’ve got plenty to take my mind off the fact that my psycho cousin, Miles De’Luca, keeps calling and declaring his love and promising to come for me just as soon as he’s destroyed anyone standing in our way. Wes isn’t going to like that idea. So between Miles, Wood Point’s evil welcoming committee, and the drill sergeant hottie trainer from hell, I just keep asking myself, how did I end up here? Blood Bond (Dirty Blood #3)

Hybrids. If I had to choose one word to sum up all of my problems, this would be it. Without hybrids, I wouldn’t have to watch my best friend slowly becoming a monster. Without hybrids, I could let go of the mentality “hunt or be hunted.” CHAS wouldn’t be scouring the Earth, intent on slaughtering and using Alex to do it. Without hybrids, I wouldn’t have to be on guard that losing my temper meant losing my shape. There would be no monster inside me, struggling to get out. Then again, without hybrids, I wouldn’t have Wesley St. John.

Blood Rule (Dirty Blood, #4)

Blood Rule (Dirty Blood #4)

Forty-six. That’s how many hybrids survived the Hunter attack in the woods after I revived them with an injection of my blood. That’s how many followed me home to Frederick Falls. And that’s how many were now mentally linked to me through a blood bond. Two days. Three valium. Fourteen hours of sleep. That’s what it took to realize I wasn’t losing my mind as a result of the noise in my own head. Sixteen. That’s how many days have passed since I almost killed Alex. That’s how many days I’ve sat by his bedside, waiting for him to wake up. To ease the guilt, to understand his betrayal, to remember the exact shade of brown in his eyes. Zero. That’s my chances of skating by with Gordon Steppe and the Hunter Council. They want me for questioning. I’m afraid what’ll happen if I give them answers

From : Cold Blood  Chapter Twenty-Five: Alex

The radio crackled out some country song that was nothing more than a tenor voice whining for more whiskey. I didn’t pay it any attention but I didn’t turn it off, either. The background noise helped numb the fear that had settled so deeply into my chest, it left an ache similar to what I imagined a heart attack to feel like. Tara had almost died. I couldn’t shake the image of her lying on her back with that … thing hovering over her, about to take a bite. Each time I allowed myself to remember, the memory swept me up and threatened to overwhelm me. I took a steadying breath and gripped the wheel tighter. I had to think of something else—anything else—to distract myself. Unwittingly, another image floated in my mind. Tara in the hotel room we’d shared for a few hours. So much of her skin bared. Bruised. Swollen. It had been both beautiful and horrific seeing her that way. And then lying next to her, sleeping, and the kiss … it had been more than I’d hoped for, her kissing me back. She certainly hadn’t kissed me back that day in the woods. Then again, I was pretty sure she’d been in shock. I hadn’t exactly planned it, but the way her face looked in that moment … fear of Miles, complete trust in me. And then she’d been angry. There was nothing more beautiful than an angry Tara. Or so I’d thought until she’d kissed me the way she had in the hotel room. The memory of that feeling would warm me for many, many nights to come. “How bad is this going to be for me, exactly?” Tara asked. I kept my gaze trained on the road but her question jolted me back to harsh reality. The kiss was over. Our time together, blocking out the world and pretending it didn’t exist, was over. We were almost back to school. “That depends,” I answered her. “On what?” “On our method of entry. Do you want to announce your return?” “Um, do I have a choice?” I knew what she was asking and I’d already worked out the answer. The shoulder widened just ahead. Perfect. “Yes.” I pulled over and got out.  We left the truck and began our hike through the darkened woods. It took my eyes a moment to adjust and then shapes of trees and the familiar, yet narrow, path came into focus. I kept my steps small so she could keep up and led the way. She asked me about the logistics of returning this way: the truck, the wards (as if they worked anymore). I could hear the irritation in my voice as I answered her but I couldn’t help it. We were almost back to reality. There was so much to say. And she’d rather talk about the damned truck.  She must’ve caught on because I heard, “Alex, wait.” I kept walking. Her hand closed over my arm, my skin heating automatically where her fingers touched me. Right now, I hated my body.  “What’s your problem?” she demanded. “Nothing. We’re almost back to school. I assume you’ll want to forget about anything that happened between us once we’re there. I’m simply switching gears to accommodate.” I felt petulant and immature saying it, but I didn’t care. “Switching gears to accommodate?” she echoed. I could hear her temper rising in her voice. Something in my gut warmed in anticipation of a good fight. “What are you, a robot?” I kept my mouth shut, willing her to go on, to say something that mattered. “I didn’t say anything because … well, it’s complicated. You know that.” She paused. The fire had gone out of her voice. “You haven’t said anything, either.” “You’re right. I guess I figured I made things clear.” I let sarcasm drip from my words. Baiting her. She laughed and my nerves pricked. “Have you ever actually had a girlfriend? Because you really suck at this.” I opened my mouth to snap back a retort, but she went on, “Don’t answer that. Seriously, though, you can’t kiss a girl and expect her to automatically know your feelings through osmosis or something. Besides, when I met you, you hated me. And now you’re kissing me. So, pardon me if that leavese me a little confused.” “I didn’t hate you.” “Pot-ay-toes, pot-ah-toes. You were disgusted, at least.” I shook my head and the words were out before I could stop them. “You don’t disgust me, Tara. You amaze me, impress me, surprise me, entertain me. You definitely don’t disgust me.” I clamped my mouth shut, horrified and elated that I’d finally said it. I couldn’t take it back, no matter her response, but I didn’t really want to, now that it was out there. She didn’t answer and my heart plummeted to somewhere around my knees. “Do I do any of those things for you?” I asked, hating how desperate I sounded. And felt. She stared at me, the whites of her eyes barely visible in the darkness. “Yes,” she whispered. My heart soared. I wondered if he could hear us from where I knew he waited in the trees up ahead. I hoped so. Something twisted inside me really, really hoped so. I allowed myself three seconds to enjoy my triumph and then reality came crashing in around me. “And does Wes do any of those things for you?” I asked, trying not to choke on the name. “Yes,” she repeated, her eyes darting away. I changed my mind. Hopefully he couldn’t hear us. The ache in my chest returned—for different reasons. It was my own fault. I’d known the answer the moment I’d asked. “I think it’s best that we leave it there then. For now.” She didn’t speak and I knew the moment was done. “Let’s get you back to school and focus on getting Miles.” “Okay.” She sounded defeated. Exactly how I felt.

I will always swoon when Alex is talking, or looking, or sleeping, or fighting… Hell, I’ll just swoon at his name 🙂 LOL Ok, now for some fun goodies!! When I did my original blog tour post for blood rule, I was quite emotional while reading the book, and my fur babies got to witness that. So, I let them talk for a minute… I’m going to show you what they had to say, and then I’m going to ask them some fun questions to go along with it…. PS, I am NOT a writer, but I am all about my dogs, so keep that in mind when you read 🙂 Giggle!

Meet Xander

Xander rdr April 29, 2013 023

“Hello, I am my mommy’s favorite because I am the oldest. I am wise, I am loving, I am obedient, and most of all, I love her most. I want to say that this book is stupid. Every time my mommy read it, she wouldn’t hug me or pet me, unless she was all stressed out, which made me stressed out. No biggie, though, I just hugged and snuggled close to sleep by her. I think she likes that. Besides, she gave me the coolest name, therefore, I am the coolest. And I wanna know who is this Alex she keeps talking about loving. And why does she growl like me when she reads this book. Plus, I got mad once, because she made so much noise I had to bark and go pee. She seriously needs a better hobby, like rubbing me a lot more. Yes, I think it’s cuddle time, so I need to go now. It was lovely to meet you. If you wouldn’t mind giving me a little scratch on the way out, it would be much appreciated. I do love to please but please love a little back.”

Meet Mysha

“Well, it’s about you guys joined the party! I am my mommy’s favorite because I am beautiful, and give the most kisses always. I’m probably the bad kid of the bunch, but she still loves me most! I like to play with the cows, and kill whatever I can get my mouth on, sorry for those of you who are squeemish. I am always laying around, but when I’m up, look out. I am the fastest, and the smartest. I am definitely the coolest. I bet me and this Wes character would have so much fun hunting together. I hear he’s pretty furry, and can run fast. I can show him where the deer live in the trees on mommy’s farm. I go there when she doesn’t notice me sneaking off. I do it often as she’s always got her nose in those books. But if I take took long, I don’t get my goodies. I sure do like my goodies. Like peanut butter, and milk bones, and beggin strips, and definitely my chew sticks. Those are awesome to chew and make teeth pretty. And, I love- SQUIRREL!!!!!!!- Ok, I need to go catch that stupid squirrel who curses at me daily when I don’t catch him. I will one day! Maybe if I am tracking the squirrel I won’t hear mommy yelling at her book again! Oh, and I need a little nap maybe too. Ok, want some licks, maybe just here? Oh, come on just a little one… Ok, how about a scratch? I’m really soft. Look, I have pretty eyes, now lean just a little closer for me to lick you…. SQUIRREL!!!……”

“I am the smartest. I protect my mommy. I don’t have time for cool. I protect my idiot siblings. I sometimes chase the cats. I do not have time to care if my mommy has her nose stuck in that thing again. The cows are near the gate, hold on……. Alright, you get one more minute. No, I don’t need scratches, except from my mommy. No, I don’t need to bite you, my growl is enough. WAIT, oh, it’s my mommy growling at that stupid thing again. And now she’s crying over something called Alex and somebody furry is in trouble. I bet Alex would be a good yard protector with me, or maybe this Wes kid. who bites harder? and who barks louder? WHAT!!! They are furry-NO MORE FURRIES! I have enough with these stupid cats who never walk in the line I want them to. I need to go check the borders again, I gotta go. Hmmmm, bring me a treat next time and we can talk about scratches. No, I do NOT kiss people, unless you are my mommy. And don’t come here smelling like furries. UGH I am so much smarter than people. I will always be the favorite because I’m so good at protecting my mommy. Sometimes I snuggle, and don’t tell but I’m seriously scared of rain and thunder and loud noise. Ok, now get off my property, I can’t protect it while you’re here.”

“So, my mommy is actually my sister, but I love her most. We have the same daddy but now I live with my big sister cuz she adopted me, and now she’s my mommy. I only wanna play all the time. I like that she gives me really good food and treats and even though she took me to that horrible place she calls work, she made me all better. I wanna play. Let’s play. I was sick, but now I’m better. And she lets me cuddle, and sleep in her bed. She gives me lots of pets. And lets me kiss her. But she doesn’t like when I pick on the others. But she lets me play. And I run, and I jump, and a try to make everyone play with me. And I like to cuddle with the cats. Oh that book thing mommy has, she always has it. But when she has it, we get to go outside in the field while she has it, so I can run a lot when she has it. And I can roll in the cow poo with Mysha, and the rub on the cats, before mommy makes me take a splash in the white pool. Oh and when she has it, she lets me sit on the swing with her, well until Xander or Mysha comes to take my spot. Or the cats. I like the cats, they cuddle with me. I like to play with balls. I like to fetch. You wanna play? I bet Cambria would be so much fun to play with, she’s always playing! Let’s play. Oh wait, you could rub me instead. I would rather my mommy play with me and not this Alex. Yes rub me while mommy yells at the book. She wouldn’t put that thing down for forever when she talked about Alex. It was crazy! She yelled and growled which was weird. But she gave us all extra treats! Seriously, let’s play! PLAY PLAY PLAY! Oh, wait, don’t go without a scratch, here, here, or here… Ahhh, thanks!! Come back and play soon!!!! “

Doggie Interview about the Dirty Blood Series!

Since you got to meet my kids, I thought you’d like to hear what they have to say, so let’s start with Xander man, tell Mommy how you feel about Wes, Tara, Alex, and Cambria….

Xander:  Well, mommy, I am sure they are nice humans, and would be welcome to come over if they bring their hands for scratches. Do you think they would give me scratches?

Mysha:  Momma, Momma, Momma, can I give them kisses!!! Oh, and Wes, will he go hunting with me? And this Tara, is she gunna be prettier than me, cuz that’s not possible!

Baylee:  we need to talk security, that’s not gunna be easy to keep us all safe. Can we get rid of the cats while they’re here?

Annie:  Will they play with me? give me some scratches maybe?

No Xan, they aren’t all human, and yes, they would all give you scratches. They might smell funny, like big dogs, so you would have to be extra sweet. And Mysh, seriously, don’t you think you should meet them first before you bathe them with your tongue? And I’m sure you could talk Wes into going for a little run. And Tara is very pretty but you are always the most pretty, just don’t tell her that, she’d kick our ass! And Annie, I will make sure you get lots of play time! And Baylee, for the love of all that’s furry, stop trying to get rid of the cats. Everyone knows you love them, even if you won’t say it!

Xander:  What do you mean they smell funny, like Mysha and Annie when they rub themselves on the cow poo? Or when Baylee ran through the sewage?

Not exactly… But back to the subject, is there anything you want to tell them?

Mysha:  Yeah, let’s go hunting! I’m really good at killing things 🙂

Annie: let’s play!!!

Baylee:   grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrowl…. stupid cats…. tell those idiots they better watch their backs, I can’t have a security breach while they are here. Tell Alex he may need to help protect the perimeter.

Xander:  Stop making my mom all upset! Tell Alex there is not enough room in our bed, he needs to find his own. And maybe, if he brings treats and lots of scratches, we’ll let him borrow the spare bed. OOOOh let’s send him to MawMaw’s, I bet they would have room for him, and she always has goodies to share. AND tell him if you get to lick him, Mysha needs to lick him first, make sure he tastes ok before.

*sputters all over and coughs * Xander, no sir. We will not be sharing a bed with anyone, and we will not send a poor defenseless boy to mawmaw’s. He’d be traumatized. And there will be NO LICKING! Seriously guys, where’s some of those good manners I taught you?

Xander: But you said you’d love to lick him if Tara wasn’t there. You said it mom!

Mysha:  Hehehehehe but I can lick him for you, look, my tongue is really clean!

OOOOKKKK, NEXT! Sweet baby Jesus, y’all are killing me… Now, what’s your favorite scene from the books?

Xander:  I like when Cambria and Tara start planning and sneaking. They are always getting into trouble together. Cambria is my favorite because she’d be the most fun and sweet to me, well if Derek let her maybe. OR I bet Fee would be really nice, she cooks a lot of goodies like you mom!

Mysha:  I like when Tara bit Alex when they started training. It was funny. OH, and I like when Tara killed all those bad wolves. OH and I like when Wes killed the bad wolves too. OH AND-

That’s enough, remember no spoilers guys. LOL

Annie: I like when everyone was swimming in the pond and having fun. I like to swim and I love to play!

Baylee: BARK BARK!!! Do you think that was loud enough? … Oh alright, I liked when Alex rescued Tara in the warehouse. Now that kid knows security.

Ok, last one, since you guys are dogs and that’s almost like a wolf, what do you think is the coolest part about being a werewolf?

Xander: I think being surrounded by family who loves you. They are there when you need, good or bad. Nobody has a family like a wolf. Like me and you and Mysha and Baylee and Annie and even that cats mom!

Mysha: Running, and hunting, beauty. Wolves are awesome mom! That’s why I look like one, and act like one too!

Annie: I think playing is the coolest. Wolves live in a pack, so there’s always somebody to play with. And if not, then we could always go with cuddling since there’s also someone around to cuddle with.

Baylee:  Fierceness. They protect what’s theirs, no matter what. They know how to keep you safe.

Hmmm, alright, well there you have it… A dog’s point of view of our favorite group of Dirty Bloods!
