Book Description:

What happens when monsters turn out to be real? One summer night while camping in the woods, Morgan Carter finds out in a big way. A tall mysterious stranger, Greyson Crawford, risks his life to try and save her sister from the vicious wolf attacking their camp. When he’s bitten and disappears into the night, Morgan can only assume the worst.

Greyson shows up a year later, and he’s a different animal altogether. His eye color shifts constantly and the rumble in his throat sounds more animal than human. She hasn’t any idea where he’s been all this time, but a good guess as to what he’s become.

Grey is determined not to let the darkness of his new existence affect Morgan and the little girl in her care. He hasn’t been able to stop thinking about Morgan but knows he should stay away and let her live a normal life. That’s easier said than done, though. A new danger pulls him from the shadows to keep her safe, and he’s no wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Can she accept what lurks just below his surface? More importantly, can she survive him?

Grey’s arms and legs were on fire, burning from his very veins, blistering every nerve ending on the way out. Why was the pain tearing through his chest? He tried to hail the woman but nothing came out except a quiet groan. Was he dying? He arched his neck toward her sister. Her body was so mangled it was all but unrecognizable as human. The girl’s eyes were open, fixed, staring back at him. She was dead. Would he die, too? What was that thing? That monster?

Maybe this was all a dream. Maybe he still slept, back in his campsite a quarter of a mile away. He’d been sleeping there only a few minutes ago. Maybe he was just having a vivid night terror and he’d wake at any moment to the relief that this wasn’t real. The girl slid over to him, but he was already panting in pain. Fire in his blood burned him up.

Her mouth moved, but he couldn’t hear anything over the roaring in his ears. Like helicopter blades, the sound drowned out everything. Her lips were full, and when his vision blurred, he tried to focus on her face. She was beautiful. Tiny. Delicate like a hummingbird. Even through spilling tears, the moss green color of her eyes was clear and compelling.

Her voice overcame the screeching in his ears. “What’s your name?”

“Greyson,” he rasped. “Greyson Crawford.” Someone should know who he was. Notify Dad what had happened there in the woods of Enchanted Rock. “What’s yours?” It was getting so hard to breathe. He had to know. He’d leave the world on her name.

“Morgan. My name’s Morgan.”

My Review

So, let’s say this maybe isn’t your typical werewolf book. Yes there are some similarities that follow the werewolf genre, but there’s some unique parts that make it pretty awesome. And there’s two different plots. First, you have Grey who’s just trying to learn to live again, and find his mate, protect her, make sure she’s ok. But then, you have this mysterious thing that will affect Morgan that no one knows about yet. You don’t find out about that plot until midway through the book, because some events need to take place first. It’s a great read, let’s start with that 🙂

Grey was a sweet, kind, generous human, and then he went camping, tried to save a girl and her family, and became a werewolf in the process. You get to live in Grey’s head in the beginning of the book, and I loved that part. He is not taking well to this new life, and he’s in trouble because he doesn’t want to be a killer like the one who made him.  I love the relationship between Morgan and Grey, when he finds her. I also love the situation with Grey saving Morgan and her niece and how it affected him. It’s a little glimpse into who he used to be before his monster took over. And I love that the wolf talks to Grey. They have their own conversations and it’s quite interesting. 🙂

Morgan is awesome. She survived some serious trauma, and is taking care of her niece and just wants life to feel safe again. She found a way to work from home to keep more time with her niece but still keep a roof over their head. And then Grey shows up, and some things start to change for her. And then some crazy goes down and her life changes even more. It’s crazy. Like woah! And now she has some big decisions to make. And this could have effects on not just her, but the other werewolves that have tried to help him as well. Oh boy!

I am all in with this series. I needa know, like tomorrow, what’s gunna happen now that something has happened between Morgan and Grey, and now that we’ve fallen in love with the surrogate pack who helped Grey. I have a feeling some crazy things are gunna go down soon. I really want book two. Oh, I should also say, the writing is fantastic. I loved how I felt for Grey and his wolf, and how I could almost feel how Morgan’s fear felt. It’s a little crazy. I was getting to excited about needing book two. LOL So, if you want an excellent werewolf book, with a great plot, and some wonderful characters, go get this one! 5 WOLFY PAWS! I love when I get to use my wolf paws for a real wolf 🙂

Why Shifter Romance?

There is something so sexy about an alpha male who is barely in control of his animal side. I love reading shifter and paranormal romance, so the transition to writing it was easy. And it doesn’t have to be just werewolves either. Wolves, bears, tigers, panthers, dragons…the possibilities are endless.

I write in several genres, but I always seem to drift back to werewolves. I love that raw dominance that comes with men wrestling with their inner beasts. I love stories of star crossed lovers, and of humans and werewolves connecting and overcoming all of the muck and danger that comes with living in the dark underbelly of the supernatural world.

And on top of the delicious looks and sexy rumbles, their instincts are usually protective over the women they love. Strong heroines are paramount for a good romance, and the women who love and stand by their shifter men have steel in their veins.

Action and adventure, dark fantasy and a love of the paranormal make shifter romances so intriguing to me. Years ago, I picked up a copy of Patricia Briggs’s paranormal romance Cry Wolf, and that was it for me. I was hooked on the genre.

What about you? Read any good shifter romances lately?
