My Review will be up really soon!
Puppy Love: Character Spotlight: Cooper
When I first found out Time Spell was going to be featured on Happy Tails and Tales, I knew exactly which character I was going to talk about—Cooper.
Readers are always curious about a writer’s inspiration for their characters. They want to know if the fiction comes from the nonfiction in the author’s life. It’s hard not to wonder how much of a story is autobiographical. So today I’m putting those rumors to rest. Yes. Yes it’s true. Cooper is based on a real guy in my life.
However, he wasn’t just any guy. He was with me for twelve years. We hiked, went for long runs, slept in and snuggled on the weekends, and traveled together. He was there for the breakups, for the day I met my husband, and for the first baby—he was a part of all of those big life moments. The Cooper inspiration for Time Spell was my yellow lab, Dallas.
Giving Ivy a faithful, at-home sidekick was my way of paying tribute to the dog that I still miss. Plus, I like that my witch doesn’t have a stereotypical pet cat. I’m able to sneak in little bits of my relationship with Dallas into Ivy’s Sullen’s Grove life. For those of you who have lost a pet, you know that just because they are gone doesn’t mean you stop missing them, or stop thinking about them.
My uncle gave Dallas to me a year after I graduated college. I didn’t find him abandoned on the side of the road like Cooper. He was a rambunctious, clumsy puppy who grew into a hundred pounds of pure love. If you’ve ever known a lab, you know they are extremely loyal and devoted. I’m so lucky to have had such a wonderful dog.
Cooper and Ivy have a long, happy road ahead of them. Look for him to featured throughout the series as Ivy’s constant companion. She is one lucky witch!
Happy reading and much puppy love!
Maghon says you are totally awesome and definitely made her tear up! 🙂 It’s so wonderful that you love your doggies as much as me!!

Her long love affair with books started at an early age, and as soon as she was able, she transformed imaginative stories into words on paper. Time Spell is T.A.’s debut novel, and the first in a series about a very adventurous, clever, and magical girl named Ivy.
T.A. has an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a graduate degree in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University. When she’s not chasing her two-legged and four-legged children or trying to escape for date night, you can find her reading, writing or planning her next beach trip.
