My Review

I both really liked and got really frustrated with this book. First, it really is a good book and it’s a quick read, it’s fun, and there’s so many good things. But my biggest complaint is that maybe some just a little research would have been needed. So, Summer is turning 21 and she’s a veterinarian-in training- already. This is not possible unless you are a GENIUS. Um, as someone who had to go to school for all of this, you actually have to go to vet school, so there’s no way she’s a doctor in  her residency yet. Yeah I know but it’s something that stuck with me. And then on the positive note, she really cares about her animals. I loved that part. Plus Summer has really good friends and a great vet to work with. I would love her circle of friends.  

Another thing that I both liked and became frustrated with. The reaction to supernatural beings. Like dude, he’s a vampire, and no one even blinked an eye. They all just had no reaction. So, I know some are more open minded than others, but seriously, I’d have to poke him with a stake, and throw some holy water on him to make sure LOL. But bringing Sully to work everyday, I was all cool with that LOL maybe I just have an aversion to those vampers. 

I love the relationships between Summer and her friends. She has good friends and great coworkers, and being from an orphanage it’s a wonder everyone is as normal as they are. And there’s plenty of hot guys. I know she is going to have some fun coming with more books in the series.  AND heads up, there’s a cliff hanger. A big one. But I look forward to seeing where this series is going and I do look forward to seeing more of Summer’s journey, especially because I love Sully!! 🙂 4 HELLHOUND PAWS!! 

Author Interview

First, tell me a little about your book :)….
A young woman finds a hellhound pup and takes it in since it’s mother is found dead. Craziness ensues with raising a hellhound while she tries to find a missing item for her landlord.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated or did you always just know?
It was a dare I posed to my teenage daughter one summer. She was bored as all teens are and I told her she should get together with some of her artist friends and make a graphic novel. I told her if she did, I would attempt to write a vampire book. Needless to say she did not write a graphic novel, but I wrote Blood of a Werewolf, which is the first of five in the Blood Series.

What inspired you to write your first book and what was it?
I had been reading a bunch of YA books that wet spring, and afterwards I read an article by Ellen Schreiber stating that some one on a plane suggested she write a book. She ended up writing the series Vampire Kisses which I adore. She said if she could do it, anyone could. Well since I’m ‘anyone’, I sat down and voila, I wrote a book.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
Of course. You write what you know. Of course I don’t know any vampires or hellhounds personally, but the characters are still people and have experiences and emotions like anyone of us and that is where I use my experiences.

How do you chose when/which characters die in your books?
So far only the bad guys have died. I haven’t come to a point where I want /need to kill off one of my creations. Besides all my books are Happily Ever After’s so it makes it hard to kill off people under that scenario

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
Truthfully, I don’t get a lot of reading in – too busy lately. Though a friend of mine just finished a YA book called Hollow’s End that I read in the airport on the way back from a conference and I loved it – the author’s name is Marianne Morea.

Who do you look up to as a writer?
Anne Rice is one of my all time favs and I was lucky enough to meet her last year at a Con I attended. She’s the one who got me interested in witches. Jim Butcher is another fav – love, love, love his Dresden Series. He’s got such a great sense of humor and I try to emulate that in my writing. And of course, there’s Stephen King. I haven’t read any of his recent stuff but I grew up reading his books and love the way he paints terror in ones mind.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your book?
I’ve re-released the Blood series after finding an editor that really challenges me, I think the books now are as good as they are ever going to get. As for Finding Midnight, I don’t think I’ve had enough time to think about that, though when I start work on the sequel I might very well have some things I wish I could change in the first book.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Editing….Ugh! Hate it! Once I’m done I don’t want to go back and play with it once, twice, thrice and sometimes even more.

What book are you reading now? Or what genre?
I almost always read YA. My ‘To Be Read’ pile is taller than I am. But I will say that my next purchase will be Julie Morgan’s Fallen. We became great friends at the last Con I went to and I’m intrigued by her Chronicles of the Fallen series.

Who designed the cover? And do you help with them?
For the Blood Series the first round I did the covers, but when I decided to re-release them I wanted covers that somehow linked them together. I worked with M.S. Fowle and she did a great job.
On Finding Midnight I was recommended to an Illustrator by another author friend to contact Jennifer Meyer. I described the book and she’d do some work than ask me questions about scenery, character traits, etc. then she’d go and work some more. Before I knew it she had this beautiful cover I was thrilled to say is mine.

Did you learn anything from writing your books and what was it?
Oh yes. I do research on folklore, places, supernatural creatures, religions. It’s fascinating. I like when I read a book and walk a way feeling I learned something and I hope that my readers walk away from my books learning a little something too.

If you could be one of your characters, who would you chose?
Wow…In Finding Midnight, I think probably Summer’s quirky side-kick Tori. I think she’s a kick in the pants and she’s so willing to try anything. I’m probably more like Summer where I’m a bit timid about jumping into something new and tend to be more introverted.

Are there any books you think some of us should read, just because?
Well I would recommend Anne Rice’s Witching Hour if you haven’t read it, it will most definitely get you psyched about witches. The Secret Circle series by L.J. Smith. I think I’ve read all of her books and hope to one day ‘fan girl’ in her presence.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Thank you. Every reader is important to me. I’m self-published and I work very hard to honor my readers with handmade swag and heart felt greetings. I’ve even written a poem to show my appreciation:
An AUTHOR’s efforts are all for naught
